"Growing Maine's Green Economy: Better Living Through Green Chemistry" will be held at the Abromson Community Education Center on the University of Southern Maine's Portland Campus.

The Abromson Center is a "green design" building based on principles of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification Program, and is the first LEED "Gold" level certified building in Maine. Green design features include a geothermal space conditioning system, recyclable carpeting made from recycled materials, recycled sheet rock, natural lighting, and other elements. Directions

  • From I-295, take exit 6B ( Forest Avenue North) in Portland. Off the exit, immediately move to the far left lane on Forest Avenue to prepare for a left turn at the first stopligh (intersection of Forest Avenue and Bedford Street). Turn left onto Bedford Street at the stoplight and continue underneath the USM Alumni Skywalk. Immediately after the Skywalk, turn left onto Surrenden Street and continue into the USM Parking Garage.
  • If approaching the campus from Brighton Avenue, follow Brighton Avenue towards downtown until it turns into Bedford Street. Turn right onto Surrenden Street immediately before the USM Alumni Skywalk, and continue into the USM Parking Garage.
